Black Bamboo

Roughly 20 years ago a retired science teacher gave me a start of his Black Bamboo, It has been growing slowly through 3 yards I have lived in. It was never a black color until this spring when most of the canes decided to change. So after all this time I finally have Black Bamboo.

Congrats! That's really a strange situation. I've never had black bamboo take more than three years to change color.

In addition, are you sure it's all black bamboo? You could have a mixed planting there of the black with another Phyllostachys that stays green.

Lastly, that planting would look a lot prettier if you pruned out all that dead stuff. :-)
