Hmmm, there is so little green on the potted one, I’m wondering if it will survive, not much chlorophyll. Hopefully one of the forum experts will post.

Until it grows out it's impossible to say. For it to grow out though it either needs to be planted into the ground or re-potted into soil-less potting media, it looks as if you simply scooped some soil out of the garden to plant it and that's absolutely the wrong stuff to use, it readily compacts and will not drain properly. That will lead to root and crown rot and loss of plant. Also when you pot up a plant always fill the container to the top so you create as much drained space at the top of the media as possible to promote root growth.

the most important thing in the pot.. is the media ... not the plant ...

good media.. is a water management system ... allowing water in the top.. to run thru the media completely ... hold enough for the plant... and then let the excess run out the bottom ...

the base problem with soil in a pot .. is that it hardens ... and then sooner or later.. water hits the top.. runs to the edge.. straight down the side of the pot.. and out the bottom .. and you can end up with it being bone dry.. in the middle.. where the roots are supposed to be ...

i agree that it might be a terminal white ... white tissue is a net negative on a plant.. the tissue does not photosynthesize sunlight.. creating food to grow the roots to feed the plant ... so in the long run you might lose ...

that said.. you have to try ... as you did ... and if you win. super.. and if you dont.. nbd ... you had fun.. and learned something ... take lots of pix ...
