B. Party Girl is a compact strep, easy, floriferous, most beautiful blue color with fantasy... one small minus - it is a dropper...They do not hold blossoms for long and it is very easy to shake them off. One curse word - and they are down. But still - an excellent choice.

You need to keep them drier than AVs - so either bottom watering - or lots of perlite. Good mix - 66% Promix HP Micorrhizae and Biofungicide - and 33% medium perlite. (+ One percent of good luck). Second must - the center of the soil should be above the rim - rosette should sit like a king of the hill.

People who grow AVs - should try the plants with a similar culture requirements - other Gesneriads, Begonias, Ferns... Otherwise - it is a monoculture - like I if would decide to grow cabbage...miles of cabbage... boring...

We have a Streptocarpus club in town - and we have a strep only show and sale in winter. General public loves blooming streps - first question usualy - is it an Orchid? No, it is a Streptocarpus. Huh - isn't it an infectious disease?

I agree that many Streps are orchid-like in appearance. Beautiful, bright colors and interesting textures. They seem to bloom more easily than orchids too and I grow a little of both. I water from the top usually, so hence the extra perlite in the soilless mix. I also don't normally use mix with mycorrhizal inoculant, as I had a bad experience with it. I'm glad it works for those that prefer it. I also like growing a few different kinds of plants to keep it interesting. Thanks for commenting!
