Open the windows every day. Use a whole house fan to clear out the air. Air cleaners with activated charcoal filters work well.

If you’re really in the south, then opening windows is a fall only endeavor. The pollen cloud in spring is ridiculous and the heat and humidity in summer is uncomfortable for most. I open my windows in late September through November if at all.

I use vinegar to clean my hardwood floors. I use the wallflower plug ins from Bath & Bodyworks in my basement as we don’t really use the space much anymore so it tends to smell stale. Everyone loves the eucalyptus mint scent.

I use no artificial means. I prefer the intoxicating aroma of cleanliness, i.e., I prefer to smell nothing.

And you really can’t open the windows and live comfortably in the Deep South.

I use the wallflowers from Bath and Body, fresh balsam, but I only use them in the fall and winter. I open the windows after the pollen in the spring. In my front hall I have one scented wall plug in from Pier 1 called Asian Spice. It's the same as original scent from Claire Burke.asain spice Pier 1
