Step down living room.

We have a step down living room. My contractor want to raise the floor with floor joints instead of pouring concrete as others have suggested. We are worried about putting wood floors over 2 different sub floors. The dining room is on a concrete slab. All of the house is on a concrete slab. Any help will be appreciated.

Raising with joists is exactly what I would do, and am considering doing myself. It makes perfect sense an will work wonderfully. That's how upper floors are built, after all. On joists.

hmmm..my comment disappeared. It shouldn't make a difference and I'd consider putting in electrical in the floor in the living room if you want to float furniture and have a lamp.

I would be putting wood floors over concrete and floor joists. Could you tell the difference when walking. Thanks for your comment.

I think a second opinion on site with a contractor can squelch your concerns about telling the difference in the floor from room to room. Does you contractor say you shouldn't be able to tell the difference?
