Regarding number 3, I would cut it back to a node that's heading the direction I would like to train a new cane. You could probably get multiple cuttings from what you remove. I might also suggest additional trellising for a rose this size and just tie the errant canes up to that. You could remove all that growth, but New Dawn blooms on old and new wood so you would be cutting off some of this season's flush. However, it certainly won't "hurt" her to remove these canes. This is just my experience with New Dawn.

Hi again. So what questions exactly did you want answered? My main suggestion would be to add another trellis, cut off anything that's growing incorrectly as suggested above and gently train the canes where you want them to go. However, you may be cutting of some of the first flush.

Thanks so much vaporvac. I put up a second trellis and got all the canes neatly ties without cutting. I’m going to wait until after the first flush then cut. The buds are there. Plus in order to propagate I need it to flower first.

Cosmetically the whole thing looks much better now. Should have some flowers soon.
