I agree with painting the door a dark color to give it a more stately presence. And then I would put a hallway table on the wall to the right when you walk in with a lamp and a mirror above it.

I'd use a runner instead of a 5 x 7 rug to make it more defined as an entry.

I also think that light looks a little too glam for this casual space.

I would suggest not drawing more attention to the front door by painting it dark. I would instead add a nice piece of wall art to the right of the door and, on the longer wall (that's) behind the door when it's open I would add a shallow but tall console table with decor on the left side and wall art to the right of it.

When you indicate, "The wall behind the door is gray as is the garage door.", do you mean that when you open the door you see a gray wall or do you mean the room we're seeing with the door closed is painted gray.

If the door opens to reveal the outdoors and it is within your budget, you might change this door for one with a window.

If changing the door is not in your budget, consider adding a faux window. A small window frame with frosted glass with a mirror behind it to reflect any interior light could work for that.

While there are fake windows for sale, finding one of the fake window posters with a closed window that fit your door with something resembling your actual front door view could be a challenge:

Something else you might consider is adding a room divider pony wall height bookcase there, perhaps with solid back facing the sitting area and glass doors facing the entry.

The front door is the one next to the chair, correct? It looks very narrow to me for a front door and I fear if you paint it a dark color it will look even narrower. Because now you have the width of the molding to add to the total visual width of the door; if you paint the door the molding will look more separate, thus the door more narrow. I think you can achieve what you want without a dark door. But, before painting, I'd tape some dark paper or a dark sheet or something over the door and see how it looks to you.

Since we can't see the full wall with the other door (assuming that's the garage entrance) it's hard to know if this is a helpful suggestion or not, but I might make that wall a feature/accent wall, either a different, warmer color or colorful furniture piece, or maybe even some wallpaper. I would not hang mirrors there, I'd put something more warm, some great art, something colorful. I thought these were nicely done entry-into-room spaces:

I definitely don't think you paint the door a dark color. I would add a lamp near by, and a runner with some contrasting color, something to change up the colors in the area, maybe something fun.
