The only option where I am is to pay $30 for a tiny plant and have it shipped to me. They are not easy to come by here. I was trying to avoid spending that kind of money on this. Btw, what’s the “lulz”?

Doing something for the 'lulz", internet expression meaning doing it just for the sake of doing, without any rational reason. In case of growing plants, it mostly means growing for fun , usually a very common genus, or own seeds , without any specific reason .Eg, ive managed to germinate seeds from my opuntia humifusa, even though the plant is one of the easiest to propagate via segment/leaf/cladode. Hypothetically , if i owned a huge patch of land covered with, lets says, opuntia ficus indica, or cereus peruvianus, or cholla, and try to grow them from seed, without need or gain, is a prime example.

As for the plant in question, things like that are more easily obtained via connections, rather then simply buying them. Like neighbors, friends, acquaintances etc. If you look it up on the web, youll see its not a plant usually mentioned grown from seed, but almost always is said that propagation is done by planets. I live in the balkans, in an ex-yugoslav state. Ive seen it as a "heritage" plant, popular in the 20th century, and have seen it more than a couple of times . Consider that even half of the cacti labeled as common(trichocereus, cylindropuntia, marginatocereus, pachycereus, rebutia) are very uncommon to rare here.

Well thanks for the explanation of lulz but, not the case here. Would rather start out with a nice sized plant than wait for this thing to grow from seed hahaha But, unfortunately, after searching around for a pilea connection I’ve only found the option to buy a little tiny plant for $30 and have it shipped. It just doesn’t seem right to me so I haven’t done it yet.

I did find an old comment online from someone who had had success germinating these from seed but could not obtain any more info.

Still interested if anyone has tried this and can share their methods.

I ordered some pilea "seeds" from Ali Baba. they were very pretty - robin's egg blue. They did not grow in to pileas, however. I have had only one plant of about 4 flower, but I sold that before I could see if it made seeds. There is lots of debate about whether this plant makes seeds. I have yet to see a confirmation of it.

I think saying pile a seeds are a scam is harsh... And may not be true. I order a bunch and they are coming up and look healthy. I agree that buying a rooted plant is expensive... As I have one with only 6?leaves... And who knows. There is so much knowledge that one needs to grow anything. Don't be so quick to blame the seeds. Although, I have bought bad seeds... Just study study study

It might be worth taking a second look at your local nurseries as they have become much more available in the past few months

Thanks! I just found a hardware store near me thanks to the pilea map website and am heading over there in a few minutes! Excited! I did germinate some seeds I ordered on amazon and while they have little round leaves, they aren’t pilea unfortunately.

I bought my seed from China before I knew there were plants available.

The Chinese instructions were sketchy at best. Thy suggested I "blister" the seed before planting. The seeds were coated with something green and were very tiny. I put them in a paper cup with a small amount of water and rubbed them around with my finger until they were bare seeds. I put them in a small pot of soil with some Perlite mixed in. I kept them moist and they germinated quickly. Now, they are tiny umbrellas about an inch tall. I'm not sure what to do next.

I have the same thing. After I found these reviews on this amazon page (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B2V24WY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_oXSlBbN6Z6BPZ) I am pretty certain I didn’t get pilea but something that looks similar, at least initially.

I have been growing so called pilea seeds for about 6 months. They just don’t get any bigger. Maybe they are not pilea at all? I thought because they had little round leaves they were. What does anyone think.

This is what my seeds grew into also. I finally threw them away. They’re not pilea. They look like micro greens for a salad!

It could be pilea, they have roundish leaves. Your seedlings are etiolated, probably not getting enough light. I never grew one from seeds, so maybe shouldn't comment...OTH, they could be different plants, some sellers will give you any seeds.

If my seedlings, I would choose few healthy plants and pot them in their own pots, into well draining mix. Slowly put into good light, not necessarily strong sunlight.

I have p.p. grown from tiniest cuttings that looked completely DOD, after spending whole mo in transit...

Thank you everyone for your comments and advice. It’s getting very hot here, I keep them outside in full light but not direct sun. They may not survive. I have been hopeful that they will still grow And will continue to give it more time. Keep u posted.
