How big is your sideboard? Could you use it in the foyer with a large mirror which would reflect the wonderful cattle charge on the dining room wall. Perhaps consider reducing the sideboard’s depth if that’s possible. Add a pair of tall lamps and hang those scones on either side of the dining room window.

My sister in law used to have an entrance exactly like that with her dining room table there as well. She had a narrow table when you walk in to the left, between the door way and the dining room. It created a little separation and made a place to put your keys, etc without clogging the entry way.

You need your front door to swing open the other way!

Oh no Janie, the hinges are on the left (as you face the door from the inside, bottom pic in OP) which is the correct location for a door swinging inward.

I'd consider a shelf like this (only much longer) with colorful artwork above it

This way, you'd have some hanging space for your purse as well as a shelf to place your keys (your "must haves") and it wouldn't be so wide that it would impede movement.

A narrow bench or console table would give you a place to put things down. I like the art in this photo but since you have a lovely space & light fixutre across the way, a beautiful mirror to reflect those would be lovely and also reflect light from the windows in the door. An oriental rug can be very practical in an entryway. They are often very durable and bring color and texture to the space.

Our front door hinges are on the right, hmmmm, it was like that when we bought.... But I absolutely must have a flat surface by the front door.

We also live in NYC area so we have big wet sloppy boots, coats, hats, umbrellas, etc when we walk in. We have no entryway, I somewhat had to create one.

Crystal, I understand what you mean by "not looking sloppy," the visual clutter drives me nuts.

I would put a skinny console table on the wall ... that is the place where you put your keys, etc. And then I would put down an area rug to cover your mismatched flooring (if replacing the tile to match the hard wood is not an option). I don't get "not being a fan" of something that makes sense.

A storage ottoman that has room under the lid for purses, etc. A small hanging wall thing for keys and stuff. We use one designed for letters so everything slides down in and gets hidden. Even the nicest hall tree or key hook usually looks like a pile of coats and junk when in use.
I also think it would be pretty easy to frame in a closet between the entranceway and the dining room window which would solve everything once and for all. If that's too much you could use an armoire in the same spot but then you'd have to walk in around the corner to use it.

Have the front door open on the other wall, then you have a wall to put a bench or hall table and some art or mirror. Can you replace the tile? A great rug would be nice.

Good lord people the door swing is absolutely the way it should be. Switching it would be ridiculous.

Technically the door can swing the other way but it shouldn’t. You will walk into a wall. The door always swings into the space not a wall. Design layout 101.
