I'd want a little blue showing above the chair rail - two or three inches. Such a beautiful space... Did you do the painting yourself? How did you add the shimmer? Could you tell me the color of the blue? I just love it all.

Gwen, thanks so much. I had the walls done by a professional painter who specializes in faux painting. She mixed 3 colors together and added the shimmer. She worked off the colors in the area rug. I think it was a medium gray, light gray and blue. I love how it turned out. And she was incredible to work with. It sure I’m thrilled with the table color I choose, but I love the buffet and walls. I think the cream chairs will tone down the dark table. Lol.

IMO that art work is a good size, but the content is fighting with that buffet piece. That art looks too modern to go with that more ornate console. It's too busy. I think you could find something that looked better than that. IMO.

Cpaul thanks for your comment. I will have 2 cream upholstered chairs in front of the console so you won’t see a lot of the ornate-ness of the console. The table is pretty modern , imo.

I agree with cpaul. Pick one “star”. The buffet or the piece of art. To much detail on both.

Thx for all the comments. I do love the artwork but agree with a few of the comments and something a friend told me. This room is elegant and something about the piece seems like it doesn’t quite go. I love the colors but the trees are throwing me off. I wonder if I need to search a little more for similar colors with a little less pattern. I definitely don’t want anything too traditional but more abstract. I think a “scene” may be too much for the room. Just need to find the right size. Should I try to find something slightly shorter? Here’s a few things I found. Not exactly what I’m looking for but maybe less busy.

Good job on the hanging height. I've framed and installed artwork for private clients, museums and galleries for years. The most common mistake people make while hanging art in their homes is they hang it too high.

60 inches from floor to center is a general guideline, which can be adjusted if the family is tall, ha ha! Also, in places like dining rooms, I hang art lower, because everyone is seated while viewing it in that space.

The art work is too commercial. It looks like it came from a décor store. Fine for a doctor's waiting room, not for a home. You should put something there that speaks to you and about you, not mass-produced 'wall art'.

I think a black & white “charcoal” or pencil drawing would also look grand...and keep it large!

Also Wayfair and Houzz sell both factory and real art. Just make sure to check the listing and make sure it says "by Jane Smith" or whatever the artist's name is. Skip the art that is not attributed to an actual individual artist.

DV,,,look on Etsy. you can have one of kind art made by a slew of artists. anything from oil, acrylic watercolor, etc. there are some wonderful artists on that site. and the great thing is you can have any size made you want! they will do a custom canvas for you too.

DV: Both of them. They are least-common-denominator manufactured-for-the-masses schlock.

Don't rush into this. Summer is here, and outdoor art shows are all around. Make the hunt part of your vacation. I bought a watercolor in Hyde Park; I have photos of Glacier National Park, pottery, a batik quilt, etc., all bought from the artists. And I have some stuff that I stumbled upon and got for free. And I have stories about each one; that's what a home should be.

I'm constantly astounded here by the number of people (not necessarily you) who think nothing of spending $6,000, $10,000 or more on countertops yet cheap out on art. It's not HGTV; it's your home.

I wanted to thank you all for your comments and advice. I ended up returning the artwork I purchased. I’m going to search for something I love. In the meantime the walls are so nice, I don’t mind not having anything on them. I’m not going to rush into finding something.

I believe the size is OK, but please suspend the art piece from the wall and have the bottom edge a few inches above the buffet top.
