Nice Bob! I am out of my house for this week, so I can’t check in my trees!

All 8 of mine died. The t-buds are green for about 2-3 weeks but they are not connecting to the rootstock and die when the run out of food. The grafting wounds heal over very quickly to leave a visible scare.

When did you graft Steve? I did about 20 this early spring, 2 did not made it, some are a little slower. All in all can't complain. Did about 30 persimmon grafts, afraid to look.

Laura, hope all is well, have a great week, must be nice. I am considering going to Naples for 6 months. Friends condo will be empty for that length of time. If it happens i'll be missing you guys.

Kelly, it will be ok. Make sure you feed it a little extra, don't have to be strong fert, keep it steady growing. Also make sure you don't have a lot of top growth. New shoots on top,pinch them of, no new growth please.

Thanks Bob! The top has been steadily growing well up until a few days ago when a tiny brand new leaf turned black and fell off. I will pinch off any future growth as you suggested. I still have not cut/bent the top over yet. I did add Osmocote plus to the container a few weeks prior to grafting and will continue to feed FP. The actual bud doesn’t seem to be swelling or doing much of anything, but I will remain patient :)

Kelly, I don't know much about your experiences with citrus growing and fertilizing. Osmocote is a timed control fert, usely 3 month or more, F/P immediate. I would not use both, small tree F/P is good enough. All you are doing is feeding the rootstock and by-passing your graft.

Thanks Bob, I only have barely a year of experience under my belt - definitely a newbie :). I added Osmocote to all of trees - at the time I was going to let them grow prior grafting. I would have to repot to remove the Osmocote. Should I do that or skip the FP?

No, you don't have to, you are good to go for a while, just rainwater if you have alkaline water, around 6,,5 ph is good, 7.5 not so good, i'll survive. Nitrogen around 20 is good for citrus, now young tree's do not need strong stuff, older tree's like 20 or even 25. like 25-5-20.
