Closet doors- How can i change the look?

Our house has Japanese inspired contemporary closet doors in our master bedroom. It does not go with our home AT ALL. the previous owners seemed to love contemporary style and added it with every update. Problem is that the house is a 1938 more of a cottage or traditional all style home. These updates do not go with it.

Anyone think it’s possible to change the look of these closet doors into something all white as a DIY project? Can i paint them white? Or spray paint? Make them look a little more shaker/panel-ish? I don’t want it to look horrible, but at the same time these doors are an eye sore because they are humongous, you can see through them and the style doesn’t match! Help! Ideas?

They are just sliding panels in track? 13:8” thick? Seems you might be able to order any panel style you want and just replace them. Guessing about $50 a door from big box store (+ painting)

Yes you can spray paint them white. Here is a blog on doing that.

But they will still be glass doors. I think marcaevans has the best idea, just replace them with white wood doors.

You could wallpaper, some papers are self adhesive and can be removed

Order new doors and use these in the garage ..

oh gosh, aside from the style, who would want to see their messy closet, even with the doors closed.

you might be able to sell these. i'd try that before 'ruining' them and still not liking them. they are handsome and might get a buyer.

There are lots of little tricks to make them look better...(your idea of painting them is good)...but they are probably never going to look right ...with the style of your house...Many people would love these in a more modern home...are they a standard size?...if so it may be worth the effort to find out the what value is and try to sell them ....
