Hosta ID?

I know I planted this Hosta last year, but for the life of me I can’t remember it’s name. It appears that the ID tag I made disappeared over winter too (I think I accidentally raked up a couple in the fall). Anyone want to venture a variety guess? I’ve gone over my purchase records and still can’t figure it out. Sure is purty.

should one assume that if a streaker is started to looked edged, it will lose its streaking?

==>>>> mosty likely yes .... but it could take years .... and in future years.. it depends on if all pips go toward the stable ... usually the stable forms.. end up the vigorous forms ...and ends up dominating the clump ....

is it useful to prune out that single leaf?

===>>> you can if you want.. there is such a theory ... but its the bud.. future pip .... under the leaf that is determinative ...

bottom line.. give it a couple months.. and lets look at it again in august or so.. and decide if it should be divided to save a streaked part ....

Thinking super hard, I’m pretty sure this is where I put Splashed Leather when I got my order of streakers last year. But this doesn’t look like Splashed Leather to me. I wonder if they mixed up my order on that one... Can any of you confirm that this is NOT splashed leather?

Okay, maybe I got Splashed Leather and Christmas Tree Gala mixed up when I planted. This looks like it might be CTG? What do you guys think?

I'm guessing, but...That could very well be Christmas Tree Gala. As I look at the pics in the hosta library, I see it's a streaker that can be quite variable, but a couple pics in there, they look a lot like your hosta. Nice one!

im not sure its still a streaker.. as it looks to have tendencies toward being an edged plant ...

and if CTG goes to an edge.. it should be rather close to Christmas tree ...

The leaf shape looks more like Christmas Tree. The leaf shape bears no resemblance to Splashed leather. Also, you may be able to distinguish them at blooming time. The Christmas tree sport will have Christmas Tree shaped flowers. The flowers of Splashed Leather are more open.

Given both are streakers and inherently unstable, they could look different than last year. That could make them more difficult to ID.

just to clarify what bk said .... the leaf design can vary year to year.. but the flower presentation should not be variable ....ken

Ken (or anyone else) two questions regarding streakers and stabilizing.

First, should one assume that if a streaker is started to looked edged, it will lose its streaking? Or, to rephrase, can a hosta be streaked and also have an edge?

Second, if a streaker has a leaf that is tending towards stabilization, but that leaf is part of an eye where other leaves are properly streaked, is it useful to prune out that single leaf?
