how small was the plant you started with .... is it in full sun???

It is in full sun, as for size, it wasn't large, maybe about 2 feet when it was purchased, i would say it was similar size to others i purchased along the same time period, the other varieties seem to grow much faster in comparison to this one

I agree with glOssy. I have 2 purchased as 2 gallon plants and now at least 10 years in the ground and, yes, I would say they both took years before a good bloom. This photo shows a summer browning but at their peak the flowers are gorgeous. The lovely lavender/pink/white color lasts longer and is deeper out of late afternoon sun.

Wow cercis47, she's huge!! I suppose I will have to be more patient then! I have a few more blooms this year vs last year but boy is she ever slow to get going
