What to put here?

I literally don't understand how to decorate (as you can see here) and basically have randomly placed things here as I have unpacked or acquired them. So please don't make fun, trust me I already know. : ) Also excuse the mess, we're moving stuff around!

So we are finally redoing this space and I need to redo the decor on the shelves too. Because of the natural light that comes in and the size of the area we are remaking the space into a reading nook/sitting area. We are thinking a rug, table, and two chairs. So please help with what to do with these shelves! Also I feel like the obvious thing is books but the shelves are very deep (12 inch) and we already have large built in bookshelves in the office which house all of our books. All ideas and suggestions welcome! Thanks ahead of time!

How beautiful! The space looks a little small for two chairs? Do you need the seating? If so, maybe one small chair and a floor lamp? Or, just a pretty table with a lamp.

Like the flooring. Wouldn't put a rug there.

What you have on these shelves doesn't really matter as long as you like it.,

Unless you actually need a new eating place, forget the table-and-chairs-breakfast nook idea.

Consider adding a comfortable platform rocker and foot stool or a swivel/rocker/recliner along with a floor lamp/table combo to this space. Sit with your favorite book or magazine and cup or glass of ...

and enjoy.

You could add some sheers to the windows or mini-blinds and a valance if you need them for privacy; otherwise enjoy the view.

I was thinking more of a sitting area than an eating area, but I LOVE the rocker idea!

If you're going to make this a reading room, it looks like it might be a little tight for two chairs. Maybe think about an upholstered chaise instead with a small table next to it. Then do a bolster pillow and a throw. No rocking chairs. And yes, it needs an area rug. In terms of the book shelves, yes, they need some books on it. So go get some from your other bookcase. And then remove everything you have on them now, it's too much stuff. Go to Home Goods and find a couple of larger pieces in whatever color scheme you're going to do in that space. Get decorative objects that have some visual interest. No candles. No picture frames. No fake plants. No random containers with nothing in them.

Love your shelves and the pieces there! I'll vote for the comfy chair and reading light. Beautiful floor! Please stay with real objects that you like.
