Help! My apple sapling is sick

I planted a 3-in-1 apple this spring and it was doing fine until the last few weeks when I noticed the leaves are either curling up on themselves or turning yellow and falling off (photos won’t upload). I have cut back watering and fertilizing (soil has felt moist an inch or two down and I was previous using root stimulator every 2 weeks)

any ideas? Thanks!
