Buying a home with a pool

Help! Ok so we are in the process of buying a house with an inground pool and found out the the pool was built partially over a drainage field for the septic system Without a city permit. They are telling us the city permit is only recommended not required. is this true?

Check with the city. This is a very localized question and will vary from city to city.

ANY potential project I have looked at that had a septic system and leach field, the city required a minimum setback. Your are not allowed to be build any structure over a leach field.

Seems to me this pool was built without a permit or it's location was snuck in after a permit was pulled and it was overlooked.

I would check the city building dept to see if in fact a permit was issued and if the location was approved.

What a horrible problem; I can't even imagine anyone building this pool like that. I'd personally walk away from that house due to mega $$$$ bucks involved whether remove pool or relocate leach field. What a nightmare. Get a reputable local Pool Builder to consult.
