Anytime you cut roots it hurts the plant in some manner or to some degree. No reason other than aesthetics to do so, IMO.

Thank you for the info. I am a beginner. I am having good luck, but am worried that my babies are not taking any rest. They have not stopped spiking and blossoming since I got them three years ago. What am I doing wrong?

Then tell me what you are doing - mine haven't re-bloomed in I don't know how long!

I have them in my Northeast window with trees and shrubs in front of the window, I keep a steady 70 degrees year round. I water once a week and only a tablespoon of water. I use a spray orchid fertilizer about once every three months. Other than that, nothing special.

I'll look into the fertilizer; thanks! I actually think my problem is that there are very few areas in this house that gets decent amounts of sunlight - not much I can do to change that, unfortunately.

They don't like sunlight, just very filtered light.
