How difficult is marble to maintain?

I love the look of marble countertops and see it everywhere in decorating magazines. I want to install it in the new home we are building but my contractor does not think it is a practical choice for a busy kitchen.

I also love the marble and have been warned against it. How often would you need to seal it?

We put a 15-year sealer on all of our countertops. So, you only need to re-seal it every 15 years.

As long as you do not let messes sit on the counters for long periods of time, nothing will have the chance to soak into the marble. Marble is not prone to staining.

We currently use DuPont sealers, however, we are doing some preliminary testing on ultraviolet-cured impregnating sealers.

What is the name of the DuPont sealer you like and is there any special application process that I would need to be aware of? Is it something I could apply? Have you ever used Akemi products? Thank you for help?

Would this all apply to Carrara Marble as well?
