Dumb questions from a CA gardener: Obviously nothing will survive on the deck outside a city apartment year round. But does anything grow well in containers in what seems like such a short growing season to me? I would like to start my daughter off with some cheerful geraniums, maybe some mint and basil. When do you all start sowing seeds and how late in the year can they grow until?
