Four month Kitchen reno finally finished.

What started as a dishwasher water leak revealed major damage from perhaps decades ago in our 50 year old house. As the extent of the damage was revealed, we had no choice but to completely gut the room. Not only was the floor and subfloor gone, but many of the joists were rotted, too. We literally took the kitchen down to the wall studs and the crawl space dirt!


Galley kitchen: 9' x 27'

We made a pass through bar to our den.


Counter tops: LG Hausys Viatera "Everest".


Flooring: 12x24 Mohawk Ava Terina Greige porcelain (half bath at end of kitchen was remodeled last spring, so we continued same flooring throughout kitchen).


Sink: Blanco Diamond in Metallic Gray.


Ceiling: Old Oak Tavern wood slats (wood slat detail added to cooktop vent and window seat).


Paint: walls- Sherwin Williams Gossamer Veil, trim & white cabinets- SW Alabaster

Blue cabinets- Magnolia Home "Silo District" cabinet paint (blue ceramic truck planter in window above sink was a gift from a dear friend. It was the inspiration for the paint color).


Backsplash: 2x8 Daltile "Modern Dimensions - Arctic White" and Daltile 1x2 Blue Denim


Giagni Pompa faucet


Lighting fixtures selected by my husband (Lowes).

Kitchen also has above cabinet rope lighting, puck lighting in beaded glass cabinets (all dimmable), and under cabinet lighting.


My husband made all the cabinetry.

    Thank you, pdjh. It was a real challenge, but so worth the wait. Exactly one year ago I nearly lost him to a major heart attack, requiring a double bypass. He had to sell his business and retire. I had an accident and needed wrist/hand reconstruction surgery, so throughout this reno he had to take it slow and easy and I was in cast(s) and splints! Little by little we did it! We're both now healthy and enjoying our new kitchen.

      Wow, amazing job! Love the whole colour scheme, love the little blue accent backsplash near the microwave and the chalkboard for notes! Love the window seat -- whoever cooked gets to lounge on it while the other loads the dishwasher :-). Is the ceiling wood? Very cool!

      In the photos it seems you got a little hue in the lighting reflections from ceiling. 1 minor adjustment in the upper lighting bulbs should help light up this great job even more.

      Thanks! The ceiling is actually laminate flooring! The window seat is a definite favorite. Love to relax with a cup of coffee in the mornings and enjoy the view.

      My husband made the 45 degree cabinetry at the entrance from our living room and also at the den entry. It makes the galley kitchen feel much larger. There are 3 corner glass cabinets with seeded glass.

      Slide out for cookie sheets, coffee bar slide out, and recycling bins. Not shown are dual slide outs under sink, trash can slide out, and slide out at end of drawer stacks for cooking oils, etc.

      I am not sure I understand the hood setup. Could you please take a photo of the hood over the cooktop showing the entire hood from the front?

      Lovely work! Your husband is a talented cabinet maker! Love the blue, and all the extra touches. I bet 4 months felt like 40 months! It must be a joy to have things in order again-and so beautifully!

      M Miller, it is an undermount range hood. my husband used 8" round ducting and routed up into the attic and vented to the outside. He built the custom wood hood, trimmed with crown and accent ceiling wood.

      I love your kitchen. I'm totally amazed by your husband's carpentry skills. Love the colors and how well everything goes together. That ceiling is fantastic and the bench by the window really makes the whole space inviting. I love your corner cabinets that open two ways. So much to love in this kitchen.

      I'm loving my Everest! Although I've only had it 5 months, I'm convinced I made the right choice. So easy to maintain and WOWS everyone who walks in my kitchen.

      No, not really. There are some, but they are pretty spaced out. Most people have to take a second look to see them and then positive comments. I wanted to bring a little more gray and taupe into my kitchen, so I didnt want a more solid white countertop that would blend too much with the white backsplash I knew I wanted. It compliments my base cabinets very well.
