Put the wall back. Open concept dumping you into a home with no foyer is not graceful or ever a good choice.

I think the wall can handle a larger piece of furniture such as a narrow console table and perhaps a runner. The chair on the small area rug isn't really claiming the space. And then yes to a piece of art work that you love on the wall above. Maybe ditch the dining rug, it's not quite large enough.

^Agree 100% with saypoint. To me that chair and table look out of place anyway in that location. If you put in a console, you can use it for storage and have that entry feeling even without the missing pony wall. Agree with saypoint also, that the whole room looks like a living room location rather than dining room.

You could do something dramatic with color on that wall (and style!) like below if you are looking for something not boring. This insp pic is just to get your creative juices flowing :)

When you walk in the door that's your foyer, not a place for a chair and table on a lily pad of a rug. I'm assuming you are lacking storage, so make select a 60"+ cabinet with wall decor and a couple of buffet lamps on top.
