I bought Black Widow last year and was surprised that it was a deep red. One year has passed and look at that deep velvet purple/black! It sure has changed this year!

(The leaves are funky because I'm fighting spider mites still)

Candice, it is gorgeous, whichever color it chooses to be.. Especially love the purple, though.. I have a million seedlings (180 really) some of which are blooming currently.. Seeing so much color variation between bloomings will make me question whether my decisions to keep some and rehome others will be wise or not.. I can't keep them all, since I have another 150 Ko seeds to plant after my summer holiday and will need more space for the ever expanding collection.. This is worse than my orchid disease, by far, LOL..

Wow I thought I had a lot of seedlings! I have 30 lol. I saw your newest post had some seedlings from last fall and they are already blooming. I've never had any younger than 2 years bloom yet. What are you feeding them and how often? What was that black soil mix in the pics? I'm pretty sure my issue is just that I don't get the best sunlight on my condo patio. My adults bloom great though.

I bought my first orchid this year. I can see those being addicting but you are right... nothing beats Adenium. I've never enjoyed gardening before them. Now I'm obsessed.

Yep, same plant. The same has happened to me with some of mine. It takes time for them to fully mature and also the bloom color can vary WIDELY due to temperature at the time of blooming, as well as PH, feeding, etc. Very nice! I still have about 300 of my original 400 seedlings (I keep giving some of them away!) so I am eager to see some new things bloom this year myself.

Elena, yeah. My collection is small and tagged. I was quite surprised! However, my friend also bought a Black Widow the same day and same place as I did. Hers bloomed very dark with a yellow throat. The nursery got them from the same place. I thought mine was mislabeled. But now it's showing. It's crazy how it varies!

Hyn, oh yes! Last year's bloom was in the fall. It wasn't fed as much. This year it's VERY hot in Houston and I've also been feeding them like crazy. That is probably why!

Beautiful blooms whether red or purple. I have a very dark quad purple flowering red at the moment also. This is why they are such a beautiful plant and we get so hooked on them and must keep getting more. If only sky hooks were available.

Yes! My husband said "your plants are getting out of control" yesterday. I said, "yep and I'm going to collect them all!" Lol! Every new unique color that I find, I HAVE to get. Honestly my collection isn't that big. But we live in a condo. So our patio is crammed!

There's an Ebay seller that is listing Black Window Adenium seeds.....I wonder if that's suppose to be Black Widow? Or it could be like the seller trying to sell Plumeria seeds named Attack Gold instead of Aztec Gold....Who knows!

Jeannie's Garden, Thank you! I actually was wondering if there was some sort if mess up on the names. My nursery wrote Black Widow but I've seen a lot of Black Windows online. I did find one website use both names interchangeably.

I have seen both Black Widow and Window. I'm not sure how different they are though.

They mess up the translations all of the time - both ways. And make up entirely new names for already existing cultivars so it's hard to say.
