Gardenia new growth deformed, also ID?

I rescued a very sad gardenia last year and it has done really well, even producing flowers in the spring.

The new growth on several stems is deformed and I can't figure it out, all other new growth if fine. It's in a mix of 1/3 potting soil, 1/3 succulent mix (peat/horticultural sand/perlite), and 1/3 perlite. I never let it dry out completely, humidity it usually around 50-60%, fertilize with Miracle-Gro Water Soluble Azalea, Camellia, Rhododendron Plant Food at probably 25% of the recommended concentration.

From reading online, I know they're very difficult to keep indoors, but I have a good place for it (south facing window in bathroom and cooler night time temps, especially in winter). Also having trouble with ID.
