Finally posting pictures

I'm not sure who put life on super speed, have been meaning to make comments and post but never find the time. Anyhow, here are the pictures from before Memorial Day-

First Frost went weird. I think the record cold in April may have damaged it. You'll see damaged tips on a number of photos. I dug it up and found it had 5 plants and a dead center.

Alligator Alley is looking good but outgrowing its spot.

Andrew is looking good but barely growing.

Lionheart looks like Andrew but is a much better grower.

Eskimo Pie just sat there for years. I put it in a spinout bag and it finally took off.

Night Before Christmas, Dancing Queen and Sea Lightening. They've grown out of the strip of shade and into full sun. They've gotten enormous from all the light, but one side is always scorched by July. This year we come back from a four day weekend over Memorial Day and they were already fried. We hit 100 degrees.

Someone was asking about Faithful Heart - here it is.

Spilt Milk has great marking this year.

Chris - couldn't resist buying one with my name. Robert Frost is in front.

Mr. Watson was starting to color up. It's already brighter. Great Expectations is beside it.

And here's part of the reason life is busy. The driveway and the retaining wall in the background are being replaced. You can't see much of the wall because it's covered in pots of had-to-be-moved plants. So far they've been ripping up concrete and pouring a new section a day for about two weeks, minus weekends, rainy days, and too hot to work days. The wall work starts in July, still have a lot of plants to move and we're in the middle of a heat wave.

oh, I do not know which one to drool more... that Andrew and Lionheart.... and Alligator Alley gets this crinkley? Just love it, mine is a baby still but doing well... Never mind that Great expectations... ohh

how in the hell are you supposed to move and store hosta.. when you dont have a driveway to throw them on ????

really now ... its not often i am turned to cussing on the forums..

tally ho.. pip pip.. and im sure it will be spectacular after its all done ... youll live thru it ... and really now.. the hosta wont care about a somewhat less than perfect growing season ...

ps: nice to see someone actually just dig up an underperformer and FIND OUT whats going on.. and report to us.. rather than just standing there scratching ones head ...

You have a beautiful garden! I have had the same thing happen to my plantaginea as your First Frost---disappointing. Andrew and Lionheart are very attractive! Good to know that Lionheart might be the better grower.

I've never heard of a Chris hosta. My son's name is Chris.

The Spilt Milk markings are awesome!

Ken, Ha! We actually have most of a driveway, certainly enough to throw hostas on. They have about 70 feet left to go. The problem is we can't drive on it until the last section poured has cured a week. Current estimate is June 12.

Newhostalady, sorry to hear about your plantaginea. One good thing - if you have a healthy section left it grows fast.

Chris was a Jim Schwartz introduction. He did a lot of "name" hostas shortly before he sold his business. I was lucky enough to be at a convention in Dubuque, Iowa and got one. Uniquely Hostas in Wisconsin bought Jim out. They might have Chris. It's just a plain gold - only bought it because of the name.

Beth, Andrew is a beauty, but hard to grow. If you get one, try to give it a lot of filtered light, even full sun early and late in the day. Also plenty of water and good fertile soil.

Mine is five years old and still only has two eyes.
