on these pix ...i cant go much beyond the general.. aphids ... [and i understand why most of us cant get a pic of these little things]

you may be able to knock the population down.. just with a water hose ...

you might also put a leaf or two in a baggie.. and take them to a good nursery or your county extension office.. and get an ID ... presuming you are in the US.. where are you ???

and once you have the ID;.... you can act accordingly ...

though yucky .... and ugly ... aphids rarely kill a shrub ... so you should not worry too much.. or go all nuclear on them ..

Hi @ken, I am from South East of England. I will post the overview of the plant later after work. Besides water hose, is there any chemical treatment available against aphids?

It looks like a willow. Is it a small weeping tree? Kilmarnock Willow?

Just blast it with the hose or sloosh the most infested shoots in a bucket of water. If you hold your nerve ladybirds may well turn up to deal with them anyway. If that doesn't satisfy you get an aphid killer from the garden centre. There are plenty available. Most people on this forum are based in the US so any recommendations they make may well be unavailable or even illegal here. But be aware that pesticides will also kill beneficial insects such as the ladybirds, lace wings and hoverflies which are the natural predators of aphids. Aphids are also very important for bluetits feeding their young at this time of year.
