Help with maggots

I'm at a loss to figure this out. For the 2nd time I have found maggots in my house. It happened about this time last year too. In front of my sliding door yesterday I found maggots crawling on the carpet. I feel like they are coming in through the door somehow, but can't find anything outside that would produce maggots. I thought there must be something dead out there, but nothing to be found. there is no smell of anything dead. I never open this door except to clean as I have another door close by and that's the one I use. Any body have a clue as to where they could be coming from?

Flowergirl, you absolutely must have these larvae properly identified! What are they? Maybe they look like fly maggots to you but are something different. What state are you from?

Kansas, I know they are hard to kill. I had to cut them in half with a knife. I am pretty sure I know what a maggot looks like though.

If they are fly larvae, there has to be a source of food. You will have lots of adults buzzing around, too, searching for ample amounts of carrion, garbage, manure, and other yummy stuff on which to lay their eggs. There are many different kinds of flies that you might find in Kansas, but all require that same breeding ground.

I'd like you to consider something like termite larvae (click here). Would it be possible to take a picture of your critters so that we can help you identify them?

It was kind of you to suggest termite larvae and click here, but that got me in a world of trouble and I had to have the computer guy to get me out. All is well now. and no it's not termite larvae. I am pretty sure it's not fly larvae either.

You've got me curious, now. Without some good pictures, I don't think I can be of much help.

When someone uses the term 'maggot' in their description, I always picture the textbook version: a white larvae devoid of eyes, legs, and antennae, about the size (give or take a little) of a grain of rice. Maggot generally refers to fly larvae, as you know.

In what ways do your larvae differ or resemble that description? You may have lost interest by now, and I understand. But I tend to be like a stubborn detective when searching for an ID......it's a weakness of mine, lol.

Slightly larger than a grain of rice, colorlight beige. there were about 20, of course I have killed them all, and I haven't seen any more. they were very tough, I had to cut them in half with a knife. the thing that baffles me is I had them about this time last year. The room they show up in is an afterthought to my house. We made a larger kitchen and there is only a crawl space under the new part. My computer guy said they were larvae of some kind of groundworm??I look every day but there haven't been any more, nothing outside on the deck, no bad smells. Wish I knew what they could be from.
