Winter Heating for Outdoor Greenhouse in 7a

last modified: 8 years ago

Hey everyone! I am currently planning a permanent structure outside of my house for year-round orchid growing. I am wondering if I should heat the building during the winter months. It gets cold here in Oklahoma, but nothing like temperatures up north in Nebraska or similar states. Have any of you established outdoor greenhouses and if so, have you needed to provide heating for these structures?

The structure is going to be in an area with a canopy of red oak trees that are approximately 50-60 feet tall. The light is absolutely filtered through the leaves from 11-4, with some direct light between 7-10a and 4-6p. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!
