Best red Rhododendron for Mid-Atlantic?

I've killed every rhododendron I've ever planted. That said, I think I've finally determined the best planting method for my region. Plant on slope in part shade in a pile of pine bark and plant high -- also, find a heat-resistant cultivar.

It doesn't have to be exactly red-red. I don't mind Nova Zembla (more magenta) or Jean Marie deMontague (lighter red/pink -- love this one). What about Taurus? Firestorm? Others? Don't really want a dark dark red that doesn't show up. One that 'glows' from a distance.

Favorite reds: Trojan Warror, Vulcan, Francesca, Keith Brown, Skookum. All except the last one grow to be quite large in 10 years, but none get to the great size of Nova Zembla. Keith Brown is a fine, true red hybrid from Weston Nurseries, but has remained unaccountably scarce in commerce.
