Need to paint tomorrow

The current wall color is dark and you can see the beautiful, but orangy, woodwork in our Victorian. I need to lighten the walls as we have a decent amount of woodwork now and a walnut baby grand is coming soon so even more darkness will be added. To top it off we have a magenta based carpet. The next room over has a mural. How do I tie it together or at least blend it in through a lighter wall color?

Love the historic home and beautiful woodwork! Perhaps a light cream color would emphasize the wood trim and not compete with the rug or mural. It would also lighten things up as well. We also live in a historic home (1844) and find light cream (Ben Moore Seashell or Ivory) to be a good fit. Good luck!

Hi there, maybe pull a light yellow tone from the carpet? How about a faint yellow like one of these?

Beautiful wood work!

Because the wood has orange and red undertones, I'd also vote for a light cream color paint. You'll be happy with a creamy white paint that cools down the orange.

Benjamin Moore White Dove OC 17

Undertones: Creamy greige / Temperature: Slightly warm. I'd use this in a north and east facing room where you need more warmth feeling.

Benjamin Moore Oxford White CC 30

Undertone: Gray / Temperature: Neutral. This paint would be appropriate in south and west facing rooms where you want to cool down the heat from the orange wood.

The room is on the northwest corner so a window in each direction. Thanks for great ideas!

If you are testing whites...try Benjamin Moore Moonlight White ... which is also called Huntington White. ..which is the same as Benjamin Moore DC-02. Why Benjamin Moore calls this saturated white that works well with wood trim and furniture by so many names eludes me. If you want something less white,try BM Seapearl. Good luck.
