What happened to the Orchid Gallery??

This new update is annoying. I can't find the Gallery.

I agree, I logged on a few times and just left because I couldn’t find anything.

I've posted this in a couple of forums:

There is a forum called "Using Houzz" (who knew?) that has [THIS Thread[(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/new-look-for-gardenweb-topics-dsvw-vd~5342444?n=965) about the new look.

The new format stinks out loud. I guess they want people to leave.

As an IS person (Software Developer and IS Manager) for 30+ years, I try to be accepting of software changes. Usually there is good reason for the change, as in older software no longer supported, consistency across all platforms, better user experience, parent company forced a change, etc...

I found the new look a bit off-setting initially, but after a bit of digging and just looking closely I was able to get myself to a situation where I'm pretty comfortable with the new look and function. Much like the initial change from Gardenweb to Houzz a few years back.

    My only complaints:

    1) Let me have some control over the layout panes that don't interest me (top posters)

    and

    2) 'Stick' my preference for how I see threads, I like the expanded layout view not the default condensed look that is seen initially every time I visit. (This used to be 'stickable' in the old layout).

I can't speak for how it works via a phone app, I'm too old, blind and big thumbed to use a phone in that capacity ;-)

Similar story to Bob, just fiddle around and it is fine. In fact it might be better.

Top posters? Perhaps most active threads might be interesting....

The old format was easy to toggle back and forth from orchids to orchid gallery. I do not see the toggle switch anymore...

    Harvey,

Edit 'Your Topics' via the edit button in the top left corner of the Orchids forum home page to add the Orchid Gallery (long unalphabetized list to pick from but it is there somewhere). After you select the gallery, it is then easily accessible from that 'Your Topics' pane. I added both the Orchids forum and the gallery so I can navigate back and forth between the two. I like having that control as opposed to where they used to 'ass-u-me' that I was also interested in the gallery and terrariums when I visited Orchids forum.

    Arthur,

Maybe if it is limited to the current forum/group/gallery it would be of interest, but I really don't care about how many times a cat has peed on Suzy's carpet and how it can best be cleaned :) when I'm here for orchids.

    Good luck,

    Bob

Why separate tabs? I tried to bypass that through Firefox but that didn't work. Also, it doesn't take a genius to put the list in alphabetical order.

Bob, you are the software person, is this a big deal?

I would consider most of these issues to be minor, they should be fairly easy to correct if Houzz chooses to do so. But generally, you want to get a list together and then implement most of those changes in one update.

I'll also say that there may be a silent majority who like the changes.

Based on the thread that was posted by tj, it appears Houzz is aware of the main/most complained about issues and just needs some additional time to implement the changes.

I'm sort of new to this site -- Houzz - Gardenweb -- I think it is terrific and find many topics to explore. The response rate for questions I have asked has been very good. I do have a complaint about the new look: why no capitalization? It really helps to find "stuff" easily when topics are ordered by alphabetical sort. Thanks Houzz. Pls address.

Bob you are a good tech support. Solved! Thank you

    Harvey,

If you go to the 'Stories and Advice' option at the top right of the page and click on 'Gardenweb Discussions', you can see a mix of threads from all of the Topics you have selected, they are sorted by 'Latest' for me.

I see 'Related Topics' made it back at the top of the page. The Gallery and Terrariums are still there. Jeez, that's was one of the changes that I liked :(

Tonight, my pages are not opening in separate tabs!!!

    Yes!
