Many stress factors can cause tomato leaves to curl but inconsistent water issues is by far the most common cause. So "I've got them with the right water emitter and all" is an assumption I'd not be willing to make. Frequency and duration are more important than emitter size. Fabric pots can dry out a little faster than plastic but soil temps aren't much different in mine.

Growing in containers of any kind vs in the ground is just one of those factors. It is far more difficult to keep nutrient levels and soil moisture levels stable and consistent with container plants. Fabric containers vs. plastic containers - I use both - generally perform about the same IME.
