And here’s a follow-on question... do you usually pot them up and keep them in pots for a season? Last year I had some that I ordered and I potted them, but then planted in the garden as soon as the garden was prepared. They all seemed fine then last summer, but this year some of those seem to be struggling... unlike most of the TC hostas that I planted in the ground.

Maybe they need to recover and grow in a pot for a year? What do you all do? I will say - these have absolutely beautiful root systems. But those last year did too. And even though they all came back this year, some are smaller and seem less robust.

Windy, I've done this several times since Jo posted about it awhile back....you can leave them in water a long time. I think you just have to make sure the crowns aren't underwater, and change the water every few days.

I just wanted to say, I love Northern Grown Perennials. Rod is great, and I have always been happy with the plants I've received from him. Just a really nice guy.

i would use minimal water ... just so the roots are touching water ... but the crown slightly above ...

and i might jam some paper or a rag on top ... so it all stay DAMP ... not wet ...

in other words.. most everything is moist.. but not under water ...

if extremely hot;. i might put them in the basement ... or some cool place .. short term ...

a day or 3.. so what ... try hard not to get much further along ... if it were to be much longer.. i might dig one hole in shade.. and shove them all in.. and let ma nature 'hold them over' ...

just dont forget.. they are not aquatics.. nor bog plants ... no long term water logging ...

Jamie - I totally agree! I haven't met Rod, of course - just emailed back-and-forth, but he seems very nice, and is great to deal with. The plants he sends are huge and beautiful. Gotta say though, to be fair, I also got some nice plants last year from Hallson's, and always get nice TC plants from Made in the Shade.

Ken - I went out and adjusted the water in the buckets after I read your comments.

So after I drove to the eye dr.'s, they said she was "out of the office today" and "sorry they didn't contact me"... hmmm. Long story short: I went home and started potting. Was able to get 6/20 done. I took a couple of pictures, though I was trying to work quickly (so I could get cleaned-up again and go to work!). I'll post some pictures later in a separate thread.

I made the executive decision to pot them all up for now. A few were purchased for the purpose of keeping in pots. And I'm not 100% sure where the others are going in the garden. So this way I can audition them and move them around until I'm sure. I also think I may buy another Japanese Maple and put a small stone path in the large corner bed, so it's best to do that first.

Jo - yes, new babies! I've added a lot to my hosta numbers this year - more than I originally planned. This is definitely a disease! I'm up to 87 cultivars.

Way to go! Windymess! When I signed up in 2013 I had 67 hostas..... Moccasin Landing/Mocc predicted that number would be up by 100 in no time...she was right on! Lol
