Would you be able to post photos so we can get an idea of your room?

    Pictures please.

Sorry, you should be able to see the photo now. Thank you!

hang it up and see how it looks. Art, whether sculptural or painted, would look lovely there, however I think you should pick a piece that you like.

You could also hang some shelves on the right side, and put the picture frames on it.

I would only use one piece of wrought iron with art on the other side....

No wrought iron wall hangings, please.

Looks like things need re-arranging but hard to tell with just one picture of the room.

    What is your idea?

The problem is that everything is wrong with that space. That curtain rod is not long enough. The drapery panels are too light in color and thin in texture. A dining table and chairs don't go in front of a window in what appears to be a living room. Those two upholstered chairs need to be together as part of a seating arrangement. Those plants need to not be on the floor where people supposedly would eat (think dirt and bugs). And no, do not hang metal pieces on either side of the window. Here is my best advice. Figure out what that space is. Is it a dining area? Is it a living room? Get window treatments that fit the window and the style of the space. And then get someone with some decorating sense to help you from there.

Sorry, Cpaul1, I have to disagree with almost everything you said. My first thought -- perhaps because I am entirely familiar with tables like that being up against a window or wall -- was that it looked like a lovely, homely area. My only problem with what I see is that the drapes could be darker and fuller. A warmer look. Of course there's also what I don't I don't see -- the rest of the room and whether that wall works with it. But you weren't asking about that.

With regard to the wrought iron, I'd say use it only if you particularly like the look of wrought iron art, and in that case I think Torreykm has given you a very good idea. You must have what you like looking at there. If you are just thinking that it's a safe, neutral choice, then consider other possibilities that might give you more pleasure, such as paintings or drawings on both sides.

Wrought iron has gone out of fashion, if that bothers you at all, because it became overused and in particular used in fiddly ways. Also I think the looks that called for it -- Mexican, Mediterranean -- had their time and also faded away. But it can still look good if tastefully used.

Thank you! Table is very old & has been in the family for many years as well as the chairs. Sentimental. I appreciate everyone's thoughts & ideas.

It is truly a very lovely table. But you're using it as a catch-all and that whole area looks cluttered. It needs to be highlighted some how, given a wall where you could hang a pretty print over it.

Your room is charming and CPaul is wrong to state everything's wrong. You never asked for an opinion on anything but opinions about the metal wall piece. You do your home the way you like it and what makes you happy.

    Awe, thank you

IMHO wrought iron pieces add nothing to a room that should be warm and cozy. Yes to changing the drapes and colorful art on the left of the windows and maybe even to the right if there is room with wider and fuller drapes, which I doubt.

The table is automatically highlighted by its position in front of the mirror. It forms a pretty, coherent image. And it's definitely not a catch-all. The plant and pictures are well placed.

Looks like too much stuff to me. Such a pretty table, too. Window.

Oops? I don't know what 'window' means.

Different strokes. I do not think it's too much stuff, Leelee. The sensibility is somewhat traditional and homely. And to me, that's just lovely. I'd be very happy sitting reading in one of those chairs.

It means window and not mirror ; )

    I count + or - 13 things on or under the table : (

Too much for me. I want the table to show since it's such a special piece. But different great minds think differently.

From everyone's suggestions so far, I have moved the plants & took everything off the table except the plant which I put in the center of the table. Trying
