First, Super White is a marble not a quartzite. It will scratch and etch.

Concrete Quartz will scratch and ruin glasses, cups, mugs, etc.

I would go with Donatello for the island and carbon for the perimeter

Thanks for your help!! I asked the fabricators about the material and they said it was a quartzite! Thanks for the insight.....off to ponder. Can't have marble!

1) Super white, while often (mis)labeled as quartzite, is usually marble. Your fabricator is presumably not a geologist and is probably well intentioned rather than deliberately deceptive, but still very capable of being wrong in the end. Make sure you understand how it behaves (ideally by testing a sample). there's a lot of threads on the subject here to search, particularly those by Karin_mt.

2) Honed quartz is generally a bad idea & polished marble is generally a bad idea, so the other way around from your initial post makes much more sense.

3) I think you're better off with a plain quartz on the perimeter if using super white as island.

Catt Combs, not at all. Just trying to decide if I can live with this....marble...instead of what I thought it was quartzite! Thanks for taking the time to answer!

DrB477,

I had done some research after finding super white (which I actually had asked for Mattarazzo and they showed me this) and did hear that they often mislabel it. Now I'm trying to see if the staining is the biggest issue with the stone.....

Thanks so much for the break down of what is good and bad with finishes. There are way too many decisions and my head hurts. I will follow these recs! Thanks so much for taking the time to answer!!!!!

if you want marble but dont want the problems you can seal it with MORE 20 year stain warranty sealer. And also hone the marble. It does not show etching nearly as bad.
