It depends. Some fabricators cut 4" strips of 3cm, the same thickness of the top, while others will use 2cm of the same color. I think the 2cm looks better, but 4" backsplashes seem to be going out of fashion favor anyway. Tile is apparently the thing, so make sure your top follows the wall well.
