Media Console Recommendations

I recently completed renovations and I am trying to decide what style media console for my living/family room. There already is a lot of wood (the tile, coffee and side table) and the couch and walls are a lighter gray. Does anyone have suggestions for what color and style media console that would go with this room? More gray? Match the wood? Black? Something else? The TV will go up on the wall which is a 17x9 wall with a (65 inch TV) so I am looking at about an ≈ 80+ inch low profile media stand. The TV is currently sitting on an old dresser which we're getting rid of.

I've read that incorporating some materials like metal may work I'm sort of stumped as I don't want the room to become too boring.

Any other suggestions for the room would be appreciated as well. Thank you!

Thanks for the suggestions. Beautiful home! I think I wanted to maintain that monochromatic color scheme but if I did want to incorporate color, which color? We will be getting area rugs for sure. We're looking at more of a gray/white color scheme I think?

My suggestion is to get a console where the cable box/DVD is not behind solid doors so you can use your remote without having to open and reclose doors. Ours has glass doors all the way across so the remote can access all the tv equipment plus we have some decor items behind the outer glass sections. Our console is antique white as we have a light gray/white/light blue green/light tan color palette with cherry tables.

Evan, the monochromatic look that you're aiming for has had its day and is already over for high-end decorators; color is making a big come-back. Furniture stores are usually about five years behind what's really in style now, and so they try to sell the gray/white look for all it's worth. A large rug with some colors that you can use for pillows, art etc. will serve you better while not completely going into the full-color look. I've used my dining room rug a lot as an example of what would look good instead of going for the no-color look that is still so prevalent but no longer in style. Of course you have to use what you love, just as long as you're sure you're not just following a trend. My rug is polypropylene and from esale.rugs.

I think some orange/yellow or both would look great as an accent color. I would try and find a rug with some colors that have yellow and orange.

That's amazing! What website / app did you use to put the picture of the rug here?

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions. It's a big help. Obviously, we do need to add some variation here.

I like the gray/white color scheme, but, then again, I prefer a more zen feel in my home. If you want to add some color to your room, do it with art and accessories/pillows/throws, not with such a large/expensive item like a rug. Down the road, if you decide to change your accent color, changing accessories is much less expensive than changing a rug, I like blues with gray.

@oaktonmom ... It's funny you post this because this is the exact console we're looking at. The wood on the front of this piece is the exact wood that is our coffee table (same family of furniture). I guess we're on the right track.

Lol. That’s exactly why I suggested it...because it does coordinate with your coffee table.

Evan, go to esalerugs.com and find a rug you like. Click on it and scroll down under the photos of the rug and you’ll see see this rug in my room. Upload your photo and they’ll put it in for you. You may have to play with positioning but it’s really easy.

I like that one, or you could get a white console like any of the good ones from Ikea, since your room has white trim, etc.

I should note that your current coffee table looks way too large, since you have the chaise on your sectional -- it should have 18" walking space to the couch all the way around. Maybe you could use that as an end table on the near end of the couch, with a reading lamp, and then get something slimmer (or nesting tables) for the middle of the space.
