Tmc, do you have one of those giant fig collection since you have been doing this for so many years? What is your most priced fig?

Black Madeira is the best but when perfectly ripe the Ischia black is the closest to the taste of the dried fig wheels which I think are Kalamata figs. It has that nutty fig flavor with the seed crunch. It is a good fig fresh and dried.

I was hoping you would not mention Black Madeira since most people familiar with figs for them it is usely B/M.

TMC, I have a new lower branch growing from the bottom almost like yours, it's about 1" off the ground. If I want to make a separate plant from that branch, should I just add soil over it like you or should I wound the branch and maybe add some rooting hormone? The branch is new green wood. I haven't had any success with woody fig cuttings I bought this spring. Nothing came of it.... and I was excited because I had 3 cuttings of celeste and 3 cuttings of black Nigrone I believe.

I usely get a piece of wire, i got some old 4 or 5 foot wire fencing and strip it and use that for some u-shape pieces. open a little soil where you going to bury the branch then use the u-shape wire to hold the branch down, scrape the bottom of the branch a little, cover and wait. Airlayer is another way, side graft another. If you really do not know you can allways send it to me, but i am at limit with figs, only if i can get a super good one to replace, i'll go that route.

I had a large Negronne that produced a huge crop of great figs one season but produced less every year because I did not root prune. For an inexpensive variety it is a great fig. If you search on my channel I think I did a video on it one year. I found it. 2012 was a good fig year. I purchased the negronne from edible landscaping and they were like candy that year.
