My kitchen cabinets turned out great

Chalk painted kitchen cabinets were the way to go! Sealed with varnish, the color and texture of these cabinets were exactly what I was after. One month later... easy to clean and not a nick or ding anywhere!

Yes it is Annie Sloan... it was actually 2-3 coats of the French Linen on the bottom. We varnished rather than the wax to make sure of durability. The paint comes in quarts I believe it was about 3 quarts for the bottom and 2 for the top. The top is a mixture of Pure white and Old White. We primed the top cabinets because there was some grease spots coming through the white only. I debated on the same thing and I'm telling you that this was the perfect solution for my kitchen. I love the color and with 3 teens at home, the durability was the most important thing!

Susan did you have to sand the cupboards first? Did you brush, spray or roll the paint on? Did you brush, roll or spray the varnish on? I have an old house that my husbands grandfather built the kitchen cabinets so I really don't want to replace them but thought it was my only option .... Until I saw your results. Thanks so much for sharing your pics.

Sandy there was no need to sand with chalk paint. The paint and varnish went on with a brush .

thanks susan. i put a coat of paris gray on the inside of a couple of cabinet doors in the MB vanity. then a coat of wax to experiment. seems to need more protection. i'll try varnish.
did you have exposed hinges, putty the holes and then use hidden hinges inside? my concern is covering the holes so they don't show thru the paint.

My hinges are in the inside of the cabinet. I would recommend varnish. The wax is a lot of work. My post links to the varnish she used
