Our greenhouse here in Central Florida is covered with Soft Lite polycarbonate panels. The light transmission is about 82%. We grow roses and start roses in it. The supplier of our covering is also in Florida. We never use shade cloth, however our supplier sells 30%, 50% and 70% shade cloth. I would think that it depends upon what you grow and to what degree they have been acclimated to the conditions you are placing them in.

I first bought a 30% but it wasnt enough. I then ordered a 40% and put it on top of the 30%. Now its good. So yeah I'd go with a 70% for your Hoyas.

If 70 works in Texas, then 70 should work in Michigan. I put a Chelsea out there today as a test. She is a duplicate of one I already have. I also put two in a tree for the summer. I think it was you who sticks them in a pecan tree. Does a Texan pecan equal a Michigan maple?

I love your pictures! Here is a little chuckle for you. My two test plants hanging in the maple tree. I had to brighten up the picture so you could see them since it is dusk here. You wouldn't even know they were there if I didn't point them out. I had to warn my husband not to bump his head on them when he is mowing. LOL! Your pecan tree gave me the inspiration to try it. I always feel sad for my plants that are kept indoors all year and don't get the natural light. The Chelsea went crazy in my classroom this year. She doubled in size. It must be the north window and sweaty little bodies!
