I think the rug works well w/your furniture.I like it better than the blue.

It's your wall color that's off. that gold wall is very warm, along w/your wood floor and trim. your sofa/chairs are cooler gray tones.

If you want to keep those walls, you'll have to bring in a rug w/warm tones,,like this

Are you up for painting a new color? It sure would make the room look better. Something like this. with white trim.

may I ask why you have that huge, blank wall, and your tv shoved in the corner?

wouldn't you rather get a media console and put the tv above it? If not, how about a console w/a nice piece of art?

We just moved into the house which is why it is a bit barren. The real view is for 'binge' watching Seattle, not the TV! We would love to put some artwork or collection of photos on that wall.

As for the rug, do you think it's too masculine? Should we consider color with pillows?

Well I have some good news and some good news. The first good news is you have neutral colors going on with both the sofa / love seat and the 2 accent chairs. The other good news is you can go in about 4 different directions with your color choices. The easy way is settle on one strong color. My suggestion is solid cerulean blue, yellow, or green throw pillows. Neutral, black, gray, beige, or white the pillows will pop. They all don't have to be solid, try patterns pillows. As for the area rug go online to Overstock.com They have thousands of area rugs to choose from.

Which ever carpet you choose make sure it falls in line with your throw pillow choices and you can live with it for 3-5 yrs. Your wall color should be neutral. I'd try shopping for a contemporary landscape or abstract on Overstock also.

Don't forget a nice large elephant ear plant in the corner.

aileen,,,stunning! perhaps you should swing the sofa around? what does it look like if part of the sofa is against the other wall? have you tried that? I don't like those chairs that face the wall. you should have your furniture situated so that you can take in that view!

If I had that room I would lighten up the walls . Do you like the golden color? if so, then your rug needs to have warm colors in them.

Are you going to paint the walls? If not,you can try bridging between the furniture/rug with pillows and art but I think a different rug would be a better option. (besides the usual suspects,maybe take a look at Wm. Sonoma Home)

We placed the sofa in the position that Room and Board had suggested for the layout. The RH designed told us to just move it away from the way by at least 6 inches.

The wall color is not so 'orange' depending on the time of day.
I did see the rug you suggested. We were not so interested in a 'symmetric' pattern, which is why we chose those designs. We were leaning into the blues and greys colors. We wouldn't mind if there were not more than 3 colors, just as long as they were muted together, and maybe the third color is just a hint.

I like the photo of the sofa in the corner, when it was delivered. Then I'd move one of those chairs (actually, sorry, those chairs just don't work in there) in the corner next to the left of the sofa. angle it so it faces the tv.

like this placement. the rug will be large enough that the chair can fit on it. a low glass table for the middle and a hanging light would complete the look.

maybe a few stools, or a bench or chaise, for decor and extra seating. You don't want to block the window view w/those two heavy chairs.

this is a wool, persian rug. maybe you like something like the over-dyed selections?

Is this too bright? I thought it brought in your floor color a little.

Thanks Beth, we will consider that chair positioning you suggested. I like those Persian styles, but I think the sizes might be too small. The current 6x9 just fits within the empty space between the sofa and chairs.

@aileenrose1 I realize this is an old post but figured I try. How do you like those Room & Board Ford swivels? Have they hold up well all these years? Wife and I are looking for swivels and just saw the Ford swivel glider in our local store and really liked them. We are thinking of ordering them but not sure if their swivel/glider mechanism will last
