It's not possible to answer your question intelligently without a plan of your yard, and knowledge about the house, the surroundings and the conditions. In the two photos you've submitted, there is not evidence that any beds are needed in those areas. Speaking for myself, I'm against beds that border the outside (street facing side) of paved areas because they usually end up creating an overall negative effect correlating to the size and variety of plants in them.

I don't necessarily agree with Yard's comments about streetside beds - they are SOP in the Pacific Northwest and entirely commonplace. But I do agree about developing a proper plan before having any work done.....that is really just common sense. Much the same as you would not build or remodel a house without a formalized plan, neither should you install a new landscape or renovate an existing one without a plan to follow. Otherwise, the results DO indeed tend to be very haphazard and look unplanned.

To clarify, I don't mean beds that are actually "streetside" --at the street -- but beds that are adjacent to a walk, on the side of the walk that faces the street. In other words, the beds screen the walk from view of the street. This is especially bothersome to me when at or near the area of the entrance. I know it is common as can be, but when these plants begin to constrict the walk, hem it in, or screen the entrance area from view, then they are downgrading the area in my view.

If this matter is still unresolved two months later agree that you really should have had bed design, plant selection and placement decided well in advance of the arrival of an installation crew. That you need to hire a consultant or designer to view the site in person, maybe plan some beds and their contents on paper, leave that with you to then work from.

You could also have the consultant/designer involved with installation if that seems needed.
