Nice woodwork, decent lighting, lovely space. I'd invest in a gorgeous, long, wide runner. Would have to be a custom size and you could also use 2 instead of one. Make it fairly wide. It will anchor and warm the space. A pattern would be good for ease of maintenance. Know that you can have any wall to wall carpeting that you see in a flooring store cut and bound to suit your space. Carpet comes in 10' or 12' widths, so look for something that you can use sideways for less waste. Then I would take out the little tables (little in comparison to the scale of the space) that I see on the left and invest in a long, chunky library/console sort of table. Keep your eyes peeled and call around to antique stores, consignment shops and the like. Then maybe a row of large mirrors (maybe with mirrored frames for extra sparkle, with some lovely sconces placed strategically (on dimmers). A budget friendly idea to make the wall above the long table would be painting a large rectangle of color on the wall and place your mirrors, artwork, sconces inside it. Gives it more presence. This is a great job to call in an interior designer for a consultation. It's an important space and could be a showstopper!

i agree with decocco, mostly :) I would caution against filling up space just because it is there..sometimes it's nice to have some open places in our homes..but i understand you will be entertaining..i'm not sure i'm expressing what i mean as clearly as i could be, but i've seen so many pictures of cluttered up space and i can't figure out how anyone could live with it, you know? one thing you might consider is a bench of some kind by the entry for coats and shoes. you are lucky you have the space for a nice one :)

I'd do a wet bar/ snack bar, w/out stools, maybe lighted wine glass cabinets, somewhere around brick in narrow space and move out the small pieces of furniture to widen and show off great flooring. Not only that, you wont have far to reach for that glass of wine while on computer. I have to go to the other end of the house!

I'd put everything on paper before you commit. Long narrow spaces are very challenging because it can look overcrowded and not inviting. Your furniture is going to be apartment size, which means, not as deep, but you can go long - obviously. Important to get it right on paper first, and then commit to new furnishings. I suggest a bench or how about a console table with ottomans underneath. You can pull them out when you're entertaining. I also strongly agree about runners.

You might want to consider breaking the room up into 2 zones, one for TV, the other for sitting.
