This one is new to me, too. You grow the most amazing OGRs, Krista, and your Bourbons knock me over! Carol

Thank you, Ingrid and Carol.

Ingrid, I obtained the rose from Hortico, five years ago or thereabouts. Hortico no longer sells it.

Love the colour very much and I am getting into Bourbons fan. I have to check this out . It is beautiful.

Krista, what an enchanting rose. On the last photo it looks like it was raining but the petals are holding really well. I've just checked the Combined Rose List for 2017 and only 3 German nurseries are listed for selling it now. I've never encountered its illustrations in standard rose books so thank you for sharing your photos. It's a beautiful rarity.

It does hold up well in the rain, some nodding of blooms, but the blooms do not ball in the rain... it's been an enjoyable rose to grow.

Krista, this rose needs to be at my cemetery project -- as soon as I create a spot for it. No rush at all, but would you be open to someday sending me budwood/cuttings? Do you have a listing on HelpMeFind? Roses like this -- no longer in commerce in the US -- are a priority for what I want to plant there, so that others can enjoy it. And I do love me some Bourbons.

Thanks for sharing.

:-)

Does Prince Napoleon repeat or is it one of the glorious once-bloomers? None of my Bourbons really repeat in our harsh winters/boiling summers, but it's nice to know they have the potential to if the weather cooperates.

Lovely pictures!

Cynthia, it repeats, but not as many blooms as the first flush. My best Bourbon repeaters are Mme Isaac Pereire and Mme Ernst Calvat.

Sorry for asking on the thread about Prince N., but I'm wondering how tall does Mme Ernst Calvat grow for you? I'm thinking to plant it somewhere near its parent MIP though MIP is already taking a lot of space in that area...

MEC is 4 1/2 feet tall, the vigor and size are similar to MIP. MEC has been more upright and arching, while MIP has been somewhat more spreading. The growth habits don't seem identical to me.

Hmm, that says a lot Krista, since MIP is one of my non-repeaters even in a prime location. Guess I'll just resign myself to once-blooming Bourbons, unless my MEC planted last year shows me better habits. Still for the scent alone they're worth it, particularly since I can't detect most rose scents. Thanks for the input.
