Are you set on painting the cabinets? Because they're really beautiful and painting cabinets professionally usually cost about the same as getting new ones, and DIYing it isn't easy at all.

Getting new lighting, swapping out the black appliances, and putting in a backsplash would be more effective at brightening up the space and cheaper.

I agree. Your counters and cabinets look nice. I would get stainless appliances, maybe get rid of those corner shelves next to the window, and swap out light fixtures for something more modern. This will give your kitchen a fresh look and you'd get new appliances.
