You can do as in this picture and rearrange shelving so it doesn’t look so boringly symmetrical. See how left side is 2 shelves and right is three? Your shelving looks adjustable so doable. This can be done in minutes and will buy you time before making a more permanent decision such as total removal or painting or whatever.

While you are playing with shelving heights, you can also paint the back in your favorite dark color for a little drama and interest.

Since you have not mentioned one thing you like about it and actually see it as a burden, I would remove it.

I would need to see more photos of the room to say what goes there. One option is no piece of furniture and just art or mirrors.

Another option would be a narrow bench.

But, as I said, it really depends on what this room functions as and what your needs are.
