Help! Need a blue/green/gray paint color for master bed/bath/closet!

Hi! A few days ago, our builder-grade closet shelving collapsed, so we are getting ready to install a custom closet. Before the installation, we thought we would take the opportunity to repaint the closet. Naturally, this snowballed into wanting to repaint the bedroom and adjoining bath as well. :)

These rooms have never been painted since we’ve lived here (they’re all relaticely neutral off-white/beige colors, with the exception of one accent wall in the master bedroom and one accent wall in the master bath that are painted a deep mocha color. We want to repaint all of these spaces, possibly including the accent walls as well. We’ve narrowed it down to 7 blue/green/gray colors and need help deciding!

Heres a photo showing the colors painted on a wall next to our blue/green curtains. We are hoping to find something that complements the curtains well. The bedroom gets lots of natural light, the closet gets a reasonable amount and the bathroom gets the least amount of light. We’re going for a calm, serene color. Hoping to find something we can potentially also use in other rooms in our house, as I have lots of light blues throughout (living room curtains are Pottery Barn Porcelain Blue, which is similar to a robin’s egg color). Please help!

(We are also open to using different, complementary colors in the different rooms.)

I will add a photo below showing the paint samples (in the same order) in our closet as well.

Palladian Blue
Rainwashed
Sea Salt
Quiet Moments
Topsail
Glass Slipper
Tradewind

What furniture are they going with? Can you take a pic of the room? Have you tried virtually painting the room with something like Benjamin Moore's Personal Color Viewer?

They're all similar too, except maybe Topsail is lighter. Not sure we'll be able to weight one vs the other from photos.

I agree it would be helpful to have additional photos of the room, and maybe a wider photo of the paint samples next to your bedroom curtain. The tiny slice of curtain shown isn’t really enough to make a good comparison. I was just reading an article about how light affects color. One of the examples was Sea Salt and that it leans green with more light and blue with less light. The author said she used Sea Salt throughout her house, and every room looked just a bit different from the others - which she enjoyed but may not be for everyone. I think some of the colors could fall into that same changeling camp, too.

Try a bit more grey like lookout point?

All are very nice colors. I would suggest, however, that you stay with a white in the closet. Once your custom closet is installed, you will not be repainting the closet. I think it's always a good idea to keep the closets white.

Edited to add - I was posting at the same time as Susan Davis.

Is there tile and flooring in the bathroom that will affect your color choice?

What color is your trim? What color is your bedding? Flooring? So many colors. What is main color you want in your bedroom. Gray? Green? Blue? SW Sea Salt shows all those tones in different lighting. Not BM Sea Salt. Just SW Sea Salt.

I have Rainwashed in various rooms throughout my home. It is a very peaceful and calm color. Palladian is very similar but is a bit more saturated and has a touch less gray. Sea salt is more green and Tradewind is a little more blue. I love Rainwashed ! It’s the perfect blue/green/gray color.

Maybe go windswept in the closet and quiet moments or grey mirage in bedroom?

Mary V. Very very pretty rooms!!!!!

All of the colors are really pretty, but I'm worried that the top two will make the curtains be completely lost on the walls.. I'd probably lean towards Sea Salt because of that. It looks like a pretty blue/green (at least on my monitor) and it seems like you would have at least some contrast with the curtains.

We had rainwashed in the living room of my last house. Just loved it, I am planning on using in our master in this home when we repaint. Voted for rainwashed, I am sure you will love it.

Mary V, where did you get your art work? Your rooms are gorgeous!

@koortl, Thank you! The art over the sofa is Muted Silhouette by Uttermost. I purchased it at a local interior design shop but have seen it on many websites. The art next to the media center is Sailors Muse II by Lisa Ridgers from greatbigcanvas.com. The bedroom canvas is one of many bargains I have stumbled upon at Homegoods.

I used Sea Salt in our guest bedroom. I love it. Sometimes, it looks more green gray and others more green blue. It is a great versatile color!

These colors will be stronger when done. I just used Ben Moore Silver Marlin and it turned out well

SW Window Pane is much less saturated than Rainwashed but could be a possibility also.

I have Quiet Moments in my bathroom, and have no problems with make-up. It is a lovely soothing color. It probably helps to have good lights on both sides of the mirror.

aktillery9 what color did you use on the trim with the rainwashed? Looks nice!

I have used 4 of your color options in my previous and present homes. I love them all, but lighting has a big effect on how they look in a room You MUST do large samples. Palladium is definitely the most saturated and strongest color of the ones I used- Palladian, Rainwashed, Quiet Moments, and Sea Salt. QM and RW were the most blue, SSalt a slightly more green/gray. Comfort Gray is a great color, too. The next color down on the SS strip. Healing Aloe is a little lighter than QM and a softer blue green.

Loved them all, but my favorites are Sea Salt and Comfort Gray- my present master bed and bath. But you must do large sample boards in your rooms. All these colors vary with your lighting.

    Erin,

The wall color is Sea Salt and the trim color is SW Dover white.

Thanks, all! I ended up going with Quiet Moments - which actually turned out really great! It looks super similar to Sea Salt based on the photos everyone shared. And it also looks so different depending on the light. I think this is my new favorite paint color!

I'll post full room pics once it's back together. :)

A couple more... disregard the tape :)

That looks so pretty. I think any soft blue shade is super pretty, will never get tired of looking at....and the bonus...spiders think it is the sky....so you will never have cobwebs in the corners. This trick was a lifesaver on a screened porch for years and years....it had previously been a creamy white color and it was nauseating, to try to keep ahead of the cobwebs, with the potted plants there also....blue.......poof.........not a spider web ever! The ceiling was blue too however...... :)

Thanks, redsilver! That’s awesome about the cobwebs and blue paint - had no idea!

@Mary—can you please tell me where you got your bed from? We are going to be getting a new one soon and I like that one! Thanks!

I agree with the ladies who said to paint the closets white. in my last three homes, the closets have been gloss white to reflect any light in the closet and make it brighter. I got the tip from a friend and it makes a huge difference. No more dreary closets for me.
