I wonder about bird pecks, but the edges look a little decayed, like maybe it's been a few days.....or it could be a caterpillar/ hornworm.

IF it is the hornworm caterpillar won't I see the leaves being eaten as well?

I had this before. Was very confused till I cut one open and found the hornworm inside. Didn't see any damage to the leaves. Only saw small holes like yours.

I just cut open the tomato from the picture, and, thankfully, there was no worm inside. I hoping that this is just from a bird pecking, if that's better? None of the other tomatoes have these holes, so, maybe I lucked out for the time being.

I only found the worm in one of my tomatoes the other year. Its hard to find but I would inspect the tomato plant at different times of the day to see if you spot one.

I look for hornworm turds more than missing leaves.

I remember reading about looking for hornworms like birds look. Something about nodding your head up and down.

Hornworms are my only real foes where I am, although stinkbug damage is a pain, and mites and thrips can kill the plant, but don't harm the fruit.

That is not bird damage... looks like worm damage; almost for sure.
