Deanna if you do decide to get some just an FYI...they are very slow to establish, so don’t give up on them!

The ‘Verssilvery Pink’ has just the luminescence I’m hoping for. Beautiful! I would like taller varieties, which ‘Color Flash Lime’ seems to be. I have only visited a couple of nurseries in my area, but they mainly carry the compact cultivars because they say it is what people want. I need some that glow and show up above some other things in the shade, and I’m worried the compact ones won’t work. I need to put a 2’ tall stake out in the area and try to visualize if the compact varieties will be seen well.

Even though ‘Fanal’ is not light, BOY does it glow! That red really shows up! I have never seen an Astilbe with such a bright shining red. Wouldn’t that be beautiful planted en masse?

Pink vision (I believe)

Not as light or tall as you want, but I love how this one seems to glow.

Fanal would be gorgeous en masse especially because the foliage is bronze in early spring and the blooms fade to burgundy and remain attractive until frost.

Color flash Lime is approx. 4' when in bloom.

Bridal Veil is another beauty, it is about 2 1/2' tall.

If you are looking for taller astilbe, try 'Mighty Pip' (soft pink) or 'Mighty Quin' (red). These grow to roughly 4 feet tall. I have 'Pip' which is presently budded but not in full flower just yet. First year here, and I have high hopes that I will love it! There are a couple more of this series, but harder to find. I did get mine from online shopping as I haven't found them locally.

That's a great thread. Just this week I was on Gilbert H Wild's site for something different, and checked out their astilbes. The only one I was interested in also happened to be BOGO! I ordered 6 @ $7 each, which will actually become 12 with BOGO, of Deutschland because I decided the white will be a good "glow" to start with in the shade, and their site said they got to be 24-30" tall, and the 30" was what I wanted. After ordering, I looked for more images on the internet and was alarmed that no other site mentions 30", but they all said something in the neighborhood of 18-24" tall. (:-(

I hope they get taller, but I am looking forward to the white to start with. I see the Deutschlands in the thread are also looking small, though. I can easily see from the thread I need to be sure to leave room for the future when combining the hostas and astilbes, even more important because my hostas are all young. I am a firm believer in vigorous dividing, and I took a few huge old honkers and turned them into multiple divisions. And, sure enough, that 'Fanal' is glowing in those pictures, too. It's really spectacular! Right now I don't want to put it with this grouping, but I have another empty place needing a plan that might be a home for a mass of 'Fanal'!
