The same color as the wall, is my favorite. Metallic (bronze or copper) is my second favorite. :-)

It depends on one's design approach and concept. I have always like switch plates and other similar devices to be inconspicuous, and not call attention to themselves, since I've long believed that there are many more important things in interior design than these "service" items.

Thus, I always try to make the colors consistent and closely match the wall colors or other surfaces where they may be installed.

No gold or mirrors please, unless those are the materials inside your home...

Gotta ask, Virgil, would that opinion change if the design is a "New Old House"? How important would it be to try to replicate or give the impression of old elements like push button light switches, or dolly switches?

It's a good question. The new old house approach may often be the exception to the rule, in that, if authentic appearing period devices and other items are available (and affordable), it may be a good idea to use them. The challenge is to use those from the proper period.

Yes, I'd have loved to do the round bakelite toggles, but can't find any that don't cost the Earth. And most of THOSE are from overseas and might not be compatible. *sigh*

Is it ok to have ivory light switches / outlets but almond covers? Made a few updates to kitchen... backsplash is greiges... cabinets are white but I have brown wood trim throughout the house.... the almond blends a little better than while with switches, but they’re ivory. Or do I need to change all switches and outlets to almond or white?
